The Accidental Amazon

Nearly all of the pink crap displayed in the above photo collage was stuff I actually saw, in person, with my own eyes, on one unbelievable day in October a few years ago. The rest of it, mostly the bottom row of pix, I stumbled upon by accident or design, either on my Facebook sidebar or posted by friends. The stuff I saw in person I photographed with my cellphone, when, foolishly, I ventured forth to do a few errands on a Saturday. Everywhere I went that day — the supermarket, the fabric story, even the UPS store — I was surrounded by pink shit. It did not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It did not make me feel like my own breast cancer reality was being represented or helped. It made me feel like this miserable chapter in my life was being trivialized and exploited for profit.

Is it any wonder I’ve written so many posts about fighting the pink peril? And it does seem to be a never-ending fight. At last count, which was July 24th, 2012, the fourth anniversary of my diagnosis, I had written thirty-eight posts in this category, not counting this archive page. Suffice it to say I’ve gotten a little tired of this subject.

These posts represent every aspect of the cause marketing and ill-informed malarkey disguised as ‘awareness’ that I’ve run into out there. Posts are listed by date, most recent first. Personally, I think some of them deserve more exposure, so feel free to add another comment or to quote one with proper attribution and a link back to the original.
