Okay, so it’s my birthday today, and I’ve had some fun this week, which is a lot better than what was going on last year. Because last year at this time, I had just found out that there was something suspicious on my latest mammo and I had to have another one and I was totally freaked that I might have breast cancer again, but trying to combat that on my birthday by doing more research on breast cancer.
This year, one of the things I did was go out last night with a couple of gal pals to eat and watch a couple of smart, funny women make us laugh. I got to wear my brown leather pirate boots and my brown tencel skirt and my kick-ass leather bling belt, and the whole outfit sort of reminds me of someone like Sonia Braga playing a wealthy heiress riding her Arabian through her massive ranch in the Argentine Pampas. But that’s just me. I’m something of a closet costume designer, so when I put outfits together, I have an atmosphere and a context and a character in my head. You know, all wardrobe is costume really. But I digress.
The women who succeeded in making us laugh our ever-loving butts off last night and challenge our ability not to have stress incontinence were Heather McDonald and Chelsea Handler. I am always happy to encounter another woman who is sharp, funny and has a bad attitude. So, I’m really proud to know that young women like Chelsea, who is young enough to be my daughter, are carrying on the fine tradition of bitchy, smart-ass chicks letting it rip in public.
To show my gratitude for Heather and Chelsea and all the witty, wise women I am lucky enough to call my friends, I’m posting some fun stuff so you can all enjoy yourselves and listen to someone besides me kvetch about life.
And by the way, Happy Birthday to all my April birthday pals (and I just know I’m forgetting someone, so I’m sorry!):
Happy April Birthday to Sira & Mary H. & Holly & Wayne & Nicole W. & Betsy (I’m eating your sunflower chocolate cupcakes today!) & Colleen’s daughter Meagan & Shirley T. & Robert F. & Jane-aka-Wish & Kerry in Canada & Nancy D. from my September rads group & my cousin Mary Jo. Love you all and glad to share this month with you!
